The Zahira community is proudly witnessing the progress of the school in all domains of a school, especially in terms of academic, sports and other extra-curricular activities.
The latest results analysis of the Zonal Education Office Mawanella reveals that Zahira is second to none among the leading schools in the Mawanella area, especially with reference to the A/L science results – a sensitive area in the school community. The analysis clearly shows the commitment of Zahira towards academic achievements in the public examinations.
We keep on track our achievements: We have international, national and provincial achievements in 2017 as in the past. Our young scientist, M Z M Ayyash hit the headlines of the national and international media with his gold medal in the Young Inventors’ Awards 2017 held in Jakarta, Indonesia; M N Raheef set provincial record in 60M and 100M sprint; we have not only students in our classroom, but there are at times resource persons. For example M.I Ayyash- the chief Editor of the journal runs our photography workshops. Similarly, Ishrath Ismathullah of 13 Science class received awards from HE the president for her outstanding performance in the oratory of Cooperative Competitions.
What’s more, our children take the fields; our soccer players and rugby players take their pitches and bring fame every now and again; our basketball boys and girls fill the court – we are the one and only Muslim school that offers girls’ basketball in a Islamic environment; our cadets take their camps in areas like Rantambe and Randenigala; our scouts take the Jamborees; and our marshal-art guys take the rings of national levels competitions; and there are many more things like these.
To cut a long story short, come join us. We are pioneers, and we are leading. However, our mission is deep and broad. Because it should take new dimensions in all respects to bring about the changes that the country and the community are looking forward to for cooperation.
What you are carrying and reading now, the Zest, is another good indicator. It is not something that comes out of a media complex like the Lake House in Colombo with the hands of professionals. Our students bring it out from our classrooms. They compile the news, typeset them, do the layout and design, contact sponsors for commercials, print it, do the event management for the ceremonial launch, and do the book keeping to conform to the Financial Regulations of the system.
Over the last two years, the government of Sri Lanka and the Zahira community, especially the SDC and the OBA have made immense contributions to pool the resources that help us get our mission going. In this way, we are having our auditorium renovated; the main gate taking a majestic look; the principal’s quarters coming up in the heart of the upper school premises; the classrooms having bulbs and fans; the school premises having sensors and CCTV for surveillance; new building coming up to house the congested classrooms; the flight of steps bridging the primary school; and the school bus that takes the children in decent fashion to their school destinations.
To cut a long story short, come join us. We are pioneers, and we are leading. However, our mission is deep and broad. Because it should take new dimensions in all respects to bring about the changes that the country and the community are looking forward to for cooperation.
